Common Loon

Everyone seems to love the loons, these shots were taken and various times during the spring and summer.  I didn't get any shots of the babies this year because apparently their weren't any on the lake that we frequent.  Hopefully next year some of the little guys will make it.

Ducks

I know that they are long gone now, but I haven't been brave enough to venture out into the below zero temps to get me pictures so here are some ducks shots from this past summer.  enjoy!

loon mother and child

The loon baby is growing!  I just love this picture that I got of the 'mother' and baby.  I say 'mother' because I am not 100% sure that it was the mother.  :)

The last time we saw the baby it looked like it was starting to lose it's baby feathers but I didn't get pictures of it.  Also I hope to be setting up a system to sell print for any for any that is interested.  But I have not had time yet with the holiday weekend - happy belated 4th by the way.

Common Loon Baby

We went boating on a mission this weekend, there was rumor that the Loons on this one lake had been out with their baby.  Is a baby loon called a chick or a duckling?  Any way we found them.  The baby was so cute.  Late we were talking with a couple and they gave us the sad news that the loons had two babies but a neighbor saw them pushing it in the water trying to get it to swim but it was too late.  They weren't sure what had happened to it but they were very upset.  They were happy to see the photos of the surviving baby, they were worried something may have happened to it too.

Baby Ducks and help id this animal

I had to share these, while boating we came across a mommy duck, we think it may have been a Wood Duck, and about six or so little baby ducks.  The mom kind of got separated from them but was trying to swim back to them as we went by.  I didn't get a very good shot of the mother, but here are the babies!  They are so cute.

Also while scouting for places to hang my new nature cam, we found this print.  It's not a wolf I know that, but I thought it was interesting.  My boyfriend said he thought it was a raccoon, but it doesn't seem long like a raccoon's print (i searched it on google)  You can see the claw marks and good friends on the DNR site say that raccoons, skunks, coyotes, foxes, and dogs will often leave claw marks.
